Crochet 101: 3-Week Beginner Series - October 14, 21, & 28 | 6 PM
Always wanted to learn to crochet but have no idea where to start? This three-week beginner series is for you.
Crochet 101 is designed for absolute beginners. We’ll start with how to hold a hook and yarn and build your skills week by week until you’re reading a crochet pattern and creating an adorable Emotional Support Chicken of your very own.
And you won’t just learn in class. Your registration includes a Beginner Crochet Kit with your own crochet hook, practice yarn, class handouts and a tote to keep everything together. Take your supplies home between classes so you can practice what you’ve learned, then bring your kit back the following week.
Week 1: Stitches
We’re starting at the very beginning.
Learn how to hold your hook and yarn, make a slip knot and starting chain, control your tension, count stitches, turn your work and create a magic ring. Then we’ll practice essential crochet stitches including single crochet, half-double crochet, double crochet, treble crochet, bobbles and more.
Project: Stitch Sampler Mug Rug
Your first project gives you hands-on practice with several different stitches while creating a useful little sampler you can refer back to later.
Week 2: Yarn, Patterns & Granny Squares
Now that you can make the stitches, it’s time to learn what all that crochet shorthand actually means.
We’ll explore yarn labels and what they tell you about yarn weight, fiber content, yardage, recommended hook size, gauge and care instructions. Then we’ll learn how to read a basic crochet pattern, including common abbreviations, stitch counts and repeats.
Project: Classic Granny Square
You’ll put your new skills to work by reading a simple pattern and making one of crochet’s most versatile building blocks.
Week 3: Bringing It All Together
It’s Chicken Time!
For our final class, we’ll use everything you’ve learned during the first two weeks to follow a pattern and create an Emotional Support Chicken from beginning to end.
You’ll practice reading a pattern, counting stitches, shaping, assembling and finishing your project. By the end of the evening, you’ll have your own handmade chicken and the foundational skills you need to keep crocheting on your own.
Your Beginner Crochet Kit Is Included
Your registration includes:
H/5.0 mm crochet hook
Practice yarn to use in class and at home
Yarn and supplies for all three class projects
Crochet 101 reference handouts and patterns
Tote bag to carry your crochet supplies from week to week
Everything in your kit is yours to keep.
$80 per person | Includes all three classes and your Beginner Crochet Kit
No previous crochet experience is required.
Because each class builds on the skills learned the week before, registration is for the complete three-week series rather than individual sessions.
Recommended for agest 12+.
